Dubai's volume of international arrivals, serviced apartments, hotel rooms and shared labour accommodation gives them constant opportunity to move between buildings in luggage, second-hand furniture and laundry bags. The difficulty with bed bugs is the egg stage. Eggs are glued into seams and cracks, and no product reliably kills them. Signs you have bed bugs
Bed bugs are found by evidence, seldom by sight. They are about the size of an apple pip, feed for a few minutes at night, and spend the rest of the time hidden within a few metres of where you sleep.
Bites in a line
Small itchy welts in a row or cluster, usually on arms, shoulders and legs — skin left exposed while you sleep.
Blood spots on sheets
Small rust-coloured smears where an insect was crushed after feeding, often near the top of the mattress.
Dark specks in seams
Digested blood dries almost black and collects in mattress piping, bed slats and screw holes.
Shed skins
Translucent casings in seams and behind the headboard. Nymphs moult five times before reaching adult size.
A sweet, musty smell
Heavier infestations carry a distinctive sweetish odour, strongest close to the mattress and bed frame.
Live insects at the seam
Flat, oval, reddish-brown and about 5mm. Check the mattress piping and the joints of the bed frame first.

Bed bugs are not known to transmit disease to people. The harm they do is to sleep, skin and — for a hotel or a landlord — reputation, and it escalates quickly while an infestation is left alone.

One thing worth knowing
Treating only the bedroom when the insects have reached the living room sofa will not hold. The inspection exists to find that out before you are quoted, not after.

- Strip all bedding and launder it on the hottest wash the fabric allows, then tumble dry.
- Clear storage from under the bed and pull furniture away from the walls so we can reach the skirting.
- Do not move mattresses or furniture to another room. That is how a one-room problem becomes a two-room problem.
After the visit
What to expect
- Bites may continue for a few days after the first visit as surviving insects move through treated surfaces.

Prevention
How to keep bed bugs from coming back
Bed bugs are brought in. Nothing here clears an active infestation, but it decides whether you get another one.
Check hotel rooms first
Lift the mattress piping at the head of the bed and look at the seams before unpacking. Two minutes, and it is where they are found.
Keep luggage off the bed
Use the rack or a hard floor, and keep cases closed. A suitcase left open on a bed is the usual route home.
Launder hot after travel
Wash and tumble dry on the hottest setting the fabric allows as soon as you get back, and keep the case out of the bedroom.
Use mattress encasements
A zipped encasement traps anything already inside and removes the seams they prefer. It also makes future inspection far quicker.
Be careful with second-hand furniture
Mattresses, sofas, bed frames and upholstered chairs are the most common way an infestation arrives in a clean home.
Reduce harbourage near the bed

Do bed bugs mean my home is dirty?
No. Bed bugs feed on blood, not food waste, and are carried in on luggage, clothing and second-hand furniture. We treat spotless apartments and five-star hotel rooms for exactly the same problem.
Why do I need two visits?
No product reliably kills bed bug eggs. The first visit clears the adults and nymphs, the eggs hatch about a week later, and the second visit deals with them before they can breed. Both visits are in the quoted price.
Do I need to throw away my mattress?
Almost never. A mattress can normally be treated and then protected with a zipped encasement. Disposing of it without treating the room simply moves the insects to the next bed you put there.
Do I need to leave the property?
Only for a few hours while the treatment dries, for the standard residual method. Heat treatment requires the property to be vacated for the working day, and we tell you that before you book.
Are the products safe with pets and children?
