Signs you have cockroaches
You will usually notice the evidence before you see a live insect. Cockroaches are nocturnal, so daytime sightings generally mean the harbourage is already crowded.
Droppings
Dark specks like ground pepper along skirting, inside drawers and on top of wall units.
A musty smell
An oily, stale odour that gets stronger near the sink cabinet or behind the fridge.
Egg cases
Small brown capsules glued into corners and crevices. Each one holds dozens of nymphs.
Shed skins
Pale casings near appliances. A sign of an established, breeding population, well past the odd stray.
Smear marks
Irregular dark streaks on horizontal surfaces and pipe runs where humidity is high.
Daytime sightings
Seeing one in daylight usually means the hiding places are full. Treat it as urgent.

Are cockroaches dangerous?
Yes. Cockroaches are a recognised public health pest, and the risk is higher in shared buildings where they travel between units through drains and service voids.

German cockroach
Blattella germanica · 12–15mm
The common indoor species. Small, pale brown, two dark stripes behind the head. Lives inside kitchen units, behind appliances and in warm voids. Breeds fastest and is the hardest to clear, because it never needs to leave the building.
American cockroach
Periplaneta americana · 30–40mm
The large reddish-brown one, often called a palmetto bug. Comes in from drains, service ducts and basements; it does not breed in the kitchen. Treatment focuses on the drain runs and entry points, not the worktop.
Oriental cockroach
Blatta orientalis · 20–25mm
Very dark, almost black, and slower moving. Prefers cool damp places — basements, plant rooms, drainage and rubbish areas. Usually signals a moisture problem that needs fixing alongside the treatment.

Very little. Gel baiting does not require emptying cupboards or covering furniture.
- Clear the area under the sink and in front of the fridge so we can reach the harbourage.
- Tell us at booking about infants, pregnancy, asthma or pets. It changes what we bring.
- Do not spray anything yourself beforehand. Insecticide residue repels insects from the bait and sets the treatment back.
After the visit
What to expect
- More activity for the first two to three days, not less. Insects leave the harbourage to feed on the bait.
- A steady decline after that, as the bait reaches the nymphs that never come out.
- Clean as normal, but avoid scrubbing the specific points the technician shows you.
- Keep bins sealed and fix any dripping pipe. Cockroaches survive weeks without food but only days without water.

Fix leaks and dry wet areas
Water matters more than food. A dripping trap under the sink or a pooling air-conditioning drain will sustain a population through an empty kitchen.
Cover and trap floor drains
Uncovered drains are the single most common entry route for American cockroaches, in apartments and villas alike.
Seal gaps around pipework
Where a pipe passes through a wall or a kickboard there is usually a gap. Sealing it closes the route between units.
Clean the fridge condensation tray
Warm, wet and undisturbed. One of the first places we inspect and one of the last places anyone cleans.
Store dry goods sealed
Rice, flour, pet food and cereal in sealed containers. Opened packets feed them. Cardboard is both food and harbourage.
Take waste out nightly
Bin lids closed and bags out before the kitchen goes quiet. Overnight is when foraging happens.

Why am I seeing more cockroaches after the treatment?
That is the bait working. Insects leave their harbourage to feed, so activity rises for two to three days before it falls away. If it has not started declining after a week, call us.
Does a clean kitchen mean I will not get them?
No. In apartment buildings they travel through shared drains, ducts and wall cavities from neighbouring units. Hygiene affects how fast a population grows, not whether it arrives.
Do I need to leave the property?
